Paul Hammerness MD

Paul Hammerness, MD, is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School, and on staff at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Newton Wellesley Hospital (NWH). Dr. Hammerness completed his Adult Psychiatry Residency and Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the combined program of MGH-McLean Hospitals. He is also the co-author of the book Organize Your Mind, Organize Your Life.

Dr. Hammerness has been involved in clinical psychiatry and academic medicine since he completed his training in 2003. He is Director of Outpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at NWH, and is an active clinician at that institution, evaluating children and adolescents with a range of psychiatric conditions. Dr. Hammerness’ academic career has centered upon the safety and effectiveness of psychiatric medications in children, with particular expertise in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and the cardiovascular impact of ADHD medications. Dr. Hammerness has participated in dozens of clinical research studies, has authored numerous peer reviewed articles, and has lectured nationally and internationally on these topics to psychiatrists, primary care physicians and educators. Dr. Hammerness supervises residents and fellows at MGH in the practice of child psychiatry and application of psychopharmacology, and is a consultant to local pediatric practices. He is also the co-author of the book Organize Your Mind, Organize Your Life.
